Recently, citizens in many places have reported that some sections of the road have transformers emitting smoke, flashing sparks, and even catching fire. This phenomenon has become increasingly common with the increase of high temperature days, becoming a safety hazard that cannot be ignored during the peak electricity consumption in summer. In response to this, power departments in many places quickly issued emergency reminders to ensure the safety of power facilities and the stability of residential electricity consumption.

What should ordinary people do if a transformer catches fire?

When encountering a transformer fire, the primary principle for ordinary people is to ensure their own safety, avoid blind action, and take scientific and reasonable measures to reduce the spread of danger. The specific method is as follows:

1. Immediately evacuate and stay away from the danger zone

Maintain a safe distance: When a transformer catches fire, it may be accompanied by an explosion or the leakage of toxic gases (such as thick smoke from the combustion of insulating oil). It is necessary to immediately stay at least 50 meters away from the ignition point and avoid getting too close to watch or observe the excitement.

Evacuation against the wind: If smoke is gradually increasing and the fire is obvious, it is necessary to determine the wind direction and evacuate quickly in the opposite direction to avoid inhaling toxic gases.

Avoid touching surrounding facilities: stay away from wires and poles near the transformer to prevent electric shock from falling off after the wires burn out.

2. Immediately report to the police and clearly explain the situation

Dial 119: Immediately dial the fire alarm number and clearly inform the location of the fire (accurate to the street, house number, or landmark building), the type of fire (transformer fire), the size of the fire, and whether there are flammable and explosive materials in the surrounding area (such as gas stations, gas pipelines, etc.).

Contact the power department: Call the local power repair hotline (such as 95598) to inform them of the transformer fire situation, so that professionals can cut off the power supply, prevent electric shock, and prevent the fire from spreading.

3. Do not act without authorization and eliminate dangerous behavior

Prohibit using water to extinguish fires: Transformers contain insulating oil inside, and using water to extinguish oil fires can cause oil fires to splash and expand the fire; And transformers may be charged, and using water may cause electric shock.

Do not blindly use fire extinguishers: Although ordinary dry powder fire extinguishers can be used for small-scale oil fires, it is difficult for non professionals to determine whether the transformer is powered off, and contact with equipment may result in electric shock. Therefore, it is not recommended to extinguish fires on your own.

Do not move surrounding objects: Do not attempt to move objects near the transformer to avoid touching live equipment or causing secondary danger.

4. Assist in warning and remind others to stay away

Warning to the surrounding crowd: If there are other people in the vicinity, remind them loudly in a timely manner to "Transformer on fire, danger! Move away quickly!" to prevent others from entering the dangerous area by mistake.

Set up temporary alert: Within a safe distance, obstacles (such as warning cones, tree branches, etc.) can be used to simply mark the danger zone and guide passing pedestrians and vehicles to detour.

5. Wait for professional rescue and cooperate with on-site command

After evacuating to a safe area, patiently wait for firefighters and electrical repair personnel to arrive, and do not return to the dangerous area.

If rescue personnel need to understand the situation on site, they should clearly inform themselves of the observed fire, whether any personnel are trapped, and other information, and not fabricate the situation arbitrarily.

Transformer fires are classified as high-risk electrical fires, and the core actions of ordinary people are "evacuation, alarm, warning". Do not attempt to dispose of them on your own.
